Every journey starts with the first step

Psychotherapy serves as a space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a safe and supportive space. It’s a collaborative process where we will work together to identify and address the pieces that are impacting your mental health and overall well-being.

“rarely, if ever are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.”

Hi, I am Aria Kenney, a licensed psychotherapist in California

During my time as a therapist, I’ve worked in various settings including schools, nonprofit clinics, and private practice. I work with a variety of clients from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of concerns. Often those who see me have experienced depression, anxiety, and relational challenges. Sometimes these are paired with other symptoms including disordered eating, suicidality, and substance use issues.

My approach to therapy is active–grounded in empathy, respect, and collaboration. I believe every individual has their unique strengths and abilities, and that therapy is an opportunity to build upon those strengths to achieve greater fulfilment in life. We’ll tailor the work done in sessions to meet the needs and goals of each individual, and take time to notice the patterns, beliefs, behaviors, and feelings present. In doing so, we can gain insight and incorporate more choice into how an individual would like to respond to life.

I graduated from Santa Clara University, with my Master’s in Counseling Psychology. I am an avid learner and find great value in prioritizing ongoing consultation and trainings to deepen my ability to be an effective therapist.

Clinical Specialties

I am trained in providing psychodynamic therapy. This type of therapy involves an emphasis and attention to relationships and the impact of those on development through various stages of life, including the relationship happening in the room between you and I.

I am a Certified Holistic Sex Therapist, which means I have completed extensive training, coursework, and supervision to support sexual exploration and offer a sex-positive, healing-centered space from a sex therapy lens.

Trauma-Informed Therapy serves to recognize the widespread pervasiveness of trauma, and the potential of each individual to have been impacted in some way from it. This lens highlights the importance of safety, choice, collaboration, trust, and empowerment.

Every path is different

Together, we’ll create a comprehensive care plan incorporating your story, goals, and strengths. From that, we’ll build out how best to navigate and support you alongside your journey.

It’s a collaborative process where you and I will work together to identify and address the challenges that are impacting your health and wellbeing.

Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers, like ourselves, need to give patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask us for a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit  www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
